MACHAKOS UNIVERSITY KASNEB CAREER TALK 2021

 Accounting association of Machakos University (AAMU) in collaboration with Machakos University KASNEB brand ambassador Peter Nyongesa hosted the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board officials on Wednesday 27th October 25, 2021 and Thursday 28th October 25, 2021 11 am to 4pm at Machakos University ampitheatre building. KASNEB officials provided consultative sessions to students and interested persons concerning KASNEB examinations and qualifications

Equally KASNEB officials provided a career talk and clarifications on issues pertaining to the new KASNEB syllabus 2021 that was launched on Friday 23rd July 2021 and

the transitional guidelines. students were happy that all their concerns were clarified.One of the students Patrick Nabwire was greatful to KASNEB for having such forums.

Here Is an overview of KASNEB, its updated examination and qualifications.

KASNEB currently offers one (1) post-professional qualification, five (5) professional qualifications, three (3) diploma qualifications, one (1) certificate qualification

and four (4) vocational qualifications which are recognized worldwide and are benchmarked with international standards and best practice.

The qualifications are acquired by sitting and successfully completing the respective examinations.

 KASNEB was established by the Government of Kenya as a state corporation under the National Treasury on 24 July 1969. The establishment and operations of KASNEB are governed by the following main Acts:

  • The Accountants Act, No. 15 of 2008 (which repealed the Accountants Act, Cap 531 of 1977).
  • The Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya Act, Cap 534 of 1988. (c) The Investment and Financial Analysts Act, No. 13 of 2015.

 

Mandate

The mandate of KASNEB is the development of syllabuses, conduct of post-professional, professional, diploma, certificate and vocational examinations and certification of candidates in accountancy, finance, credit, governance and management, information technology and related disciplines, promotion of its qualifications nationally and internationally and the accreditation of relevant training institutions in liaison with the ministry in charge of education.

1 1. POST PROFESSIONAL SPECIALISATION EXAMINATION

Certified Forensic Fraud Examiner (CFFE) examination

The CFFE is administered in three modules, with an integrated case study and workshops at the end of the course. Each module is expected to last for three months. Examinations for the CFFE course will be administered three times in a year, thus the course is meant to last on average one year.

CAMS

The CAMS course is administered in two levels, with each level requiring an average of six months, thus a total of one year. The course is fully tuition based with requirements for students to sit for continuous assessment tests (CATs), which constitute 15% of the final score for assessment purposes.

The examinations will be administered primarily on a computer-based platform.

2.   ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Post Professional examinations A person seeking to pursue the CFFE examination   must have a minimum qualification of:

  • Kasneb professional qualification;
  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university; or
  • Any other qualification considered equivalent to the above. The course can be pursued through tuition-based learning or self-study.

2.2 Professional examinations A person seeking to be registered as a student for any of the professional examinations must show evidence of being a holder of one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination with an aggregate average of at least grade C+ (C plus).
  • Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) with at least TWO Principal passes provided that the applicant has credits in Mathematics and English at Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) level or equivalent qualifications.
  • Kasneb technician, diploma or professional examination certificate.
  • A degree from a recognized university. (e) International   General            Certificate       of         Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination grade C in 6 papers.

(f)  Such other diplomas as may be approved by kasneb.

2.3 Diploma examinations A person seeking to be registered as a student for any of the diploma examinations must show evidence of being a holder of one of the following minimum qualifications:

(a)  Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination with an aggregate average of at least grade C- (C Minus) or equivalent qualifications. (b)  International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination grade D.

(c) Certificate in Accounting and Management Skills (CAMS) (d) Any other kasneb technician or diploma examination certificate.

(e) Such other certificate as may be approved by kasneb.

2.4 Certificate examination A person seeking to be registered as a student for the certificate examination must have a minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination with an aggregate average of at least grade D plain or equivalent qualifications, or a vocational certificate.

2.5 Vocational Certificate examinations the minimum entry for the vocational certificates is a KCSE certificate or equivalent.

Entrants with high school certificates will start with Level I which covers basic skills. Other entrants with post-high school qualifications covering the basic skills will enter at Level II.

The courses can be pursued through a tuition-based programme or privately. Tuition-based programs (physical or virtual classes) are however recommended due to the instructiveness with facilitators and other students which are key in imparting the requisite technical and soft skills.
